I'm moving this discussion from the weird spammer thread to here.
I just saw Bobby and Janie play an acoustic show Friday night. They said not it's not a breakup but a trial separation. If definitely seemed like it might be awhile before they play as full band again unless they find some sort of temporary (or permanent?) replacement for Evan who is in fact in St Louis. I think that would suck but it would be better than no Stems shows at all.
The setlist for interested parties was as follows (entirely based on memory could be incorrect):
Taking Tips From the Gallery Gang
My Kingdom for a Trundle Bed
Risking Life and Limb for the Coupon
Happens to Us All Otherwise
Winston
Hooray for Madam Corday
Cloak of Blue Sky
Sugar City Magic
I feel like I'm missing one but I can't recall what it it would have been. I'm not sure I had ever heard them play My Kingdom or Life and Limb live before. It's definitely a different experience to see just the 2 of them playing acoustic guitars. They still have the greatest stage chemistry of all time but a lot of the energy of the music is lost. I've listened to these songs enough times that my brain can fill in the other parts but it is not the same and the rest of the crowd (there for a writing conference/publisher party) wasn't really that into it. Bobby seemed really hopeful when I talked to him afterward (he's the one who said trial separation). I said I would hate to think I'd never get to see them live again and he said to never say never. We shall see.
To open the night:
Moderator: "For a long time I've been dreaming of seeing these 2 bands play together (Serenghetti and Bound Stems). The Bound Stems broke up which is Horseshit! But we have the vocalists Bobby and Janie here."
Janie: "Um, break up is NOT the right word." _________________ Disembodied ringlets from hair that looks like Carrie Underwood's. |

Well then, I'm very glad to have seen Evan and friends play numerous times in NYC, including the Double Door show in Chicago, with The Long Winters, and in attendance with Rob, Affe, and Brant... _________________
