I was going to see "Cloverfield" tonight, but it was sold out, until tomorrow...
Wound up taking the kids to see the Cloverfield prequel: "Water Horse"...

I have a feeling I'd enjoy either of those movies. But man I hope it's not the Loch Nes Monster attacking New York in Cloverfield.

I saw There Will Be Blood on Monday. I personally felt the acting and directing was amazing but I think I have a few gripes with the screenplay and/or some of the editing. As huge fan of PT Anderson I don't think this holds up to likes of Magnolia or Hard Eight.

Disembodied ringlets from hair that looks like Carrie Underwood's.

Just got back, I'm gald to report the monster looks scarier, than that half-whale thing, that's shown on the web...
You could say if "Godzilla '54" was filmed from the perspective of a guy with a mini-cam,
you'd have "Cloverfield"...

Best cliche:
Guy: What is that thing?
Soldier: I don't know, but it's winning.

Funniest:
1) Girl: What is that thing?
Guy with camera: I don't know, but it's terrible
(giant louse from monster attacks group)
Girl: Oh my God!! What was that???
Guy with camera: Something else, also very terrible

2) Guy: Maybe it fell to earth from space.
Girl: Like Superman?
Guy: (almost romantically) You know who Superman is?

I wanted to see Blood, but thanks to a terrible trailer, couldn't convince my friend to see with me. (seriously, it's a pretty bad trailer)

Instead we saw Charlie Wilson's War (not so "new" anymore, but fantastic) and No Country for Old Men (ditto, but the ending kind of went on about 20 minutes too long)

There were 2 great trailers before the movie:

Hellboy 2 (Although, the 1st minute looked "Potter-ish")
Iron Man (I still say they shoulda went with Pierce Brosnan)

Also, the new Star Trek movie, but you only saw the construction of the ship...

hahah I loved that moment. I absolutely adored Cloverfield. I saw it for the third time last night.

Superbad's one of my faves as well. And the performances in Charlie Wilson's War are simply a joy to watch. Something in the way Tom Hanks playfully says "Yes ma'am" in that film cracks me up every time.

It also makes you realize the lack of common sense, most people have...
If a sea of rats are hauling ass in the direction you're running?
Run faster...

BTW, Spoon had a song on the soundtrack...
Also, if you didn't stay for the end of the credits,
you hear a crackle, then "It's still alive"...

'Cause I get...Oh,

Biggest nitpick with Cloverfield: the surround sound was too good for a handheld video camera. (Alternatively, there were some -very real sirens- that were driving past the theater at just the right time.)

I still want to go again.

No Country for Old Men and Juno are both utterly divine. It's been a good week for my film viewing.
